Music Kiosk

A precious gift from overseas!

At the centre of the beautiful square by the sea, which was once Rapallo’s merchant port, stands an elegant installation from the early 20th century: it is the Music Kiosk, built thanks to donations from Rapallo’s many emigrants to South America. Intended to embellish what was then the new waterfront, it became the ideal setting for concerts, theatre performances and dances. Even today, the great composers of the past with the main characters of their works, frescoed by Giovanni Grifo, hover in the dome’s bowl.

Curiosity:In 1901, the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius also spent a happy period in Rapallo, staying in the striped building overlooking the piazza and which at the time housed the Pensione Suisse.
