Sailing

To Rapallo with the wind in our sails!

The Circolo Nautico and the Lega Navale have always been committed to spreading the love and culture of the sea and sailing among residents and visitors. Each year, top-level regattas are organised in the gulf, as well as courses for young sailors and experienced adults.

Interest in yachting landed in Rapallo in the 1920s thanks to Marquis Franco Spinola, owner of the villa of the same name in San Michele di Pagana. The Marquis had the first regatta boat built, called Spina, admired for its legendary elegance and speed.

Curiosity: In the past, sailing was only done for commercial purposes thanks to the leudi, boats with lateen sails, used for transporting wine, cheese and sand.
